SIS HB 370 is a handbook published by the Swedish Standards Institute (SIS) with the title "Safety standards for medical gas facilities". The handbook contains guidelines and standards for the safe handling and installation of medical gas pipeline systems within the health care sector in Sweden. In the soon to be published new edition of SIS HB 370, under the leadership of SIS, it will contain a translation into Swedish of EN-ISO 7396-1 and clarify the difference to "Swedish practice" and additional requirements in addition to those set in EN-ISO 7396-1. In the present version of SIS HB 370 there is no direct translation of ISO 7396-1 within the handbook.
SIS HB 370 aims to ensure that medical gas facilities in the Nordics meet the highest safety standards possible, and that patients and healthcare professionals in healthcare facilities are not exposed to risks or hazards due to the gas systems. It contains guidelines for the design, installation, operation, maintenance and monitoring of medical gas pipeline systems. The content originates from over 40 years of experience in the construction and maintenance of Swedish medical gas facilities.
The manual covers various aspects of medical gas installations, including safety requirements, connections, marking, control systems, gas supply, storage and handling of gas cylinders, ventilation, and fire prevention measures.
It is in everyone's interest that medical gas pipeline systems meet the recommendations and standards set out in SIS HB 370. This is to guarantee state-of-the-art safe and reliable use of pharmaceutical-classified gases in healthcare facilities.
